Proscar and its uses?
Generic Proscar is an androgen hormone inhibitor used in men to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) which is swelling of the prostate. Generic Proscar works by lowering the amount of a hormone in your body called dihydrotestosterone or DHT. Reducing this hormone level in your body may help to reduce the swelling of the prostate and reduce the symptoms of BPH.

Working Mechanism of Proscar
Generic
Proscar lowers levels of a key hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone),
which is a major cause of prostate
growth. Lowering DHT leads to shrinkage of the enlarged
prostate gland in most men. This can lead to gradual
improvement in urine flow and symptoms over the next several months.
Generic
Proscar will help reduce the risk of developing a sudden
inability to pass urine and the need for surgery.
In the body, the hormone testosterone is converted to a more active form, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), by 5-alpha reductase. Generic Proscar blocks the action of 5-alpha reductase, and therefore prevents the activation of testosterone.
The enlargement of the prostate gland, which often occurs in men with advancing age (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia), is dependant upon testosterone being converted to DHT within the prostate gland. In the absence of DHT the prostate shrinks. Therefore, by decreasing the amount of DHT, Generic Proscar helps shrink the prostate.

gland is found only in men and lies at the top of the
tube connecting the bladder to the outside (urethra).
Enlargement of the prostate
causes it to press on the urethra and bladder and can cause urinary
symptoms such as poor flow of urine. By shrinking the
prostate,
Proscar
relieves the pressure on the bladder and urethra. This allows urine
to flow freely past the prostate
and relieves the urinary
symptoms.

Proscar Dose
Missed Dose of Proscar
Take the missed dose of Proscar as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose of Proscar you missed and take only the next regularly scheduled dose of Proscar . Do not take a double dose unless otherwise directed.
Excess Dose of Proscar
Generic Proscar in excess dose does not show any symptoms.

Contraindications with Proscar
